Breathing patterns in psychopathology and blood oxygen levels - Risk factor for cognitive decline?

نویسندگان

چکیده

Neuronal brain activity is assumed to be reflected by blood level oxygenation levels, also known as BOLD signal, measured with fMRI. A scan of the literature points both oxygen and carbon dioxide levels effects on The roles (O2 ; hypoxia/hypoxemia, hyperoxia) (CO2 hypocapnia, hypercapnia) in neuronal signal are complex still under investigation [1,2]. Inspiration while varying O2 CO2 air have been used investigate resting state fMRI [3].

Sleep-disordered breathing advances cognitive decline in the elderly.

OBJECTIVE To examine whether the presence of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is associated with an earlier age at mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or Alzheimer disease (AD)-dementia onset in participants from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) cohort. We also examined whether continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) use is associated with delayed onset of cognitive decline...

The Roles of Exercise and Yoga in Ameliorating Depression as a Risk Factor for Cognitive Decline

Currently, there are no effective pharmaceutical treatments to reduce cognitive decline or prevent dementia. At the same time, the global population is aging, and rates of dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) are on the rise. As such, there is an increasing interest in complementary and alternative interventions to treat or reduce the risk of cognitive decline. Depression is one potenti...

Anemia and risk for cognitive decline in chronic kidney disease

BACKGROUND Anemia is common among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) but its health consequences are poorly defined. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between anemia and cognitive decline in older adults with CKD. METHODS We studied a subgroup of 762 adults age ≥55 years with CKD participating in the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) study. Anemia was def...

Atrial fibrillation as a risk factor for cognitive decline and dementia

Aims To assess whether AF is a risk factor for cognitive dysfunction we used prospective data on AF, repeat cognitive scores, and dementia incidence in adults followed over 45 to 85 years. Methods and results Data are drawn from the Whitehall II study, N = 10 308 at study recruitment in 1985. A battery of cognitive tests was administered four times (1997-2013) to 7428 participants (414 cases ...
